Moving Image- Week 7,8,9- My own film

Moving Image- Week 7,8,9- My own film

Long time no see. I d been so busy with researching my own fashion film idea/topic/theme that I completely forgot to upload my resarch on the blog. Well, at least I ve remembered and learned it now.

Like described in one of my late entries my Fashion Communication course Moving Image included the assignment to create an own fashion film with the length of 2-4 minutes.

You are required to create a 2-4 minute long fashion film for Top Shop for Autumn/Winter 2013/14 inspired by early to mid 1980s club culture and youth cults.

And as I feel always soo uncomfortable to write about somehting that took place a long time ago, I just show you how my final proposal looked like + the film.

‘MIDNIGHT’

INTRODUCTION
“There’s two sides to every girl”
                                                                                        (Author Unknown)
 Dream and Fact

Inspired by punk rock, glitter dust, lighted city streets, edgy fashion model facial expressions and reverie.

People’s outer and inner personalities are different. However, that doesn’t mean, the inner she can’t live it up. She is beautiful and confident; she rules her life and people see her as a thriving young independent fashion-conscious woman. Let the twilight cover the city and you wont recognize her. “The spirit lives on!” She loves punk rock, fun and movement; she has temperament and is headstrong. It’s about being fascinating at night and a little mysterious in daylight.

This fashion film won’t recreate the 80’s with great detail. It will use some authentic aspects to make the 80’s shining through in a modern setting. Punk rock has been recreated many times, but probably never differently in the same time. This fashion film will not only introduce Topshop’s punkish daywear collection, but also a darker party moderate styling. By the combination of temporary rock music and fashion with the 80’s-punk-scene styling details the viewer will feel the sense of that particular time and the present; the viewer will be introduced to the new styles throughout real and imaginary settings. The viewer will be taken on a journey through vibrant streets during daylight and lonely alleys during twilight; in a way of letting the spirit of punk shining through in a bit.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This fashion film supports the collection for women aged 18-35, which have an income range from 10.000 to 20.000 Dollars per year and are young fashion-conscious people. (Source: Topshop Final Report- Survey (150 people))

The styling in this fashion film promotes two outfits, one for daywear and the other for evening.
The first styling, which presents a clothing combination for the day will include a black shirt for a price range between 18-95 £, skirt for 29-250 £, winter coat of 58-595 £, shoes for a price between 35-175 £ and accessories of 5-100 £. The price of one complete outfit can range from 145 £ to 1.215 £.
The eveningwear as second styling will include a party dress, which has a price range of 50-180 £, a thin coat of 55-220 £, shoes of a price between 35-175 £ and accessories of 5-100 £. The price of one complete outfit can range from 145 £ to 675 £. (Source: Topshop website)

This film presents two complete outfits and can be only seen as a ‘loss-leader’ and should encourage the viewer to visit the Topshop store.

Previous campaigns that can be seen as ‘loss-leader’ are

STYLING
The wardrobe styling and set design will be historically inaccurate and provide only punk and rock elements through accessories, make up, hair styling and take place in public city places to demonstrate street lifestyle and nightlife.
The fashion film ‘Midnight’ demonstrates modern cutting-edge fashion, which gives the customer/viewer new styling tips, whether for wardrobe, hair or make-up.

Wardrobe
All wardrobe pieces will be bought in charity shops in Edinburgh to cut the costs. Also additional pieces like safety pins for clothing decoration in DIY style will be found in the Edinburgh Fabric store, 12/14 Clerk Street, Edinburgh.

The daywear outfit has the purpose to showcase fashion pieces, which every girl and woman would like to wear to appear confident, smart and in-fashion. Main pieces for this outfit are
1 Shirt
1 Skirt
1 Winter coat
Accessories (necklace, earrings, rings and bracelets)
1 Pair of shoes

The evening wear has the purpose to demonstrate an alternative dressing style, which will be well received by punk lovers and other females, who like to showcase their sexy dark side at night.
Main pieces for this outfit are
1 Party dress
1 Thin coat
1 Pair of shoes
Accessories (necklace, earrings, rings and bracelets)

Make-Up
Two different Make-up styles will be applied for two different location settings (daylight/night light). They will include in some aspect punk details, but not in an exaggerate way.

Hair
Two different Hairstyles will be applied for two different location settings (daylight/night light). They will include in some aspect punk details, but not in an exaggerate way.

Model choice
The perfect model for the fashion film ‘Midnight’ is a model that has experience in acting or modeling. It is important to have an open-minded and self-confident model that can move in front of the camera without constantly being directed.
She has to be beautiful and preferably without an alternative look, as the fashion film has to approach a great percentage of young women. Her measurements will be preferably: Height from 5’’7, Size 8-10, Shoe size 37-39

Dressing
The fashion film will be shot on the streets of London, to capture the authentic big city life. Therefore, no additional location setting is necessary.

The main idea of the film ‘Midnight’ is to follow a young woman on her journey through the city during daylight and taking a glimpse into her mind to find out what she plans to wear to party that night.

The daylight shots will be filmed in the most neutral way and capture the model from the front, back and the sides from neutral view angle to keep the ‘real world’ mood more authentic. Whereas the night light shots will be filmed from different more dramatic angles, like from the bottom, to create an imaginary world. To the street light additional lighting might be taken in consideration depending on budget. Also extra materials like artificial snow, glitter, crashed baubles or broken bits of glass may be included, to add something magical to the black and white night shots.

SOUNDTRACK
Portishead - Machine Gun Backing Track (instrumental)

Machine Gun is a beats track recorded by the band Portishead, which is a British band from Bristol, England. Portishead plays the genres trip hop, experimental, electronic, downtempo and alternative rock. The track Machine Gun is a track consisting of fast contiguous beats and in overall the track’s melody is gritty.
